Hi, I’m Nina! πΏ
Welcome to my home, where monochrome interiors meet a green jungle, and where there might be just a few more houseplants than is practical ππ
I’m Nina, a houseplant enthusiast from Lohja, Finland, a wife and a mum to three adult children, born in 1976. My Instagram account, “@my_greener_home” grew out of my love for plants and my desire to share a little piece of my green world with fellow plant lovers. Over the years, a small hobby has grown into a collection of more than 300 plants and a community where I get to share the joys of watching plants grow, admire new leaves, celebrate successes and occasionally laugh at the experiments that don’t quite go to plan…
Our family also includes Elsa, who has been with us for ten years. She came to us through rehoming and has been keeping me company ever since. She’s an important part of my everyday life π€
Plants are so much more than decorative objects to me π They’re my passion, a source of creativity and a little world of my own βΊοΈ
I’ve always been a creative person and loved drawing, painting and making ceramics. Living with chronic pain has changed the way I approach these activities, and today, my creativity finds its way into photography and writing more than anything else. I photograph my plants, my home and little moments of everyday life, and I write down my thoughts and experiences. My creativity hasn’t disappeared. It’s simply found new ways to express itself.
My collection includes plenty of pothos (Epipremnum), Scindapsus, Monsteras and peace lilies, along with a smaller collection of cacti and euphorbias. I’m especially drawn to beautiful foliage, interesting patterns and variegation, so there’s always another plant catching my eye π Even though my collection has grown to rather impressive proportions, I still get excited about discovering new plants and exploring their potential. There’s always something new to learn, and you don’t have to know everything from the start. Most of my lessons, however, have come from making mistakes along the way π
Our home is decorated mainly in black and white, but when it comes to greenery, I let the plants do their thing. The result is my own combination of clean lines, graphic details and abundant foliage. I love giving my plants room to grow and be seen, even if that means rearranging furniture and coming up with creative solutions to make everything fit. Living with plants sometimes feels like a giant game of Tetris!
Of course, my life isn’t all about admiring new leaves. Chronic illness, pain and limited energy come with their own set of challenges. (I have hEds π¦) My plants are an important hobby partly because they give my mind a break from everything else. I can focus on watching them grow, appreciating the little details and creating my own green world. Not everything has to be perfect, and I don’t have to achieve the same things every day.
Positivity is my superpower β£οΈ That doesn’t mean the pain and difficult days aren’t real. It means I try to find little things to enjoy in everyday life and hold on to hope for tomorrow, even when things don’t go according to plan. A new leaf, beautiful light, a photograph I’m happy with or a good writing session can be just the little thing that makes a day better.
That’s also why I believe we don’t need to strive for perfection with our plants. Every collection is different, and we all grow our plants under our own circumstances. For me, the most important thing is the joy they bring into our lives.
Here on my website, you’ll get to know me and my plants a little more personally than you might on Instagram. I’ll be sharing my experiences, thoughts about plant life, products I’ve come to love, photography, writing and little glimpses of my everyday life among the foliage.
If you love houseplants, get excited about new leaves, understand how one plant can lead to fifteen more, or simply enjoy being surrounded by greenery, you’re in the right place π
Welcome to my little green world π
